Platinum Pals
What a difference one email a week can make in someone's life! We all know how one well-timed email can brighten a day. For older adults interested in connecting more with young people and sharing their rich life experiences, one email exchange a week can have a dramatic effect. Platinum Pals' mission is to facilitate those meaningful correspondences that can enrich each other's lives.
A New York nonprofit corporation, Platinum Pals seeks to foster intergenerational correspondence by enlisting high school students to engage in social interaction through email exchanges with older adults. We believe great things happen when teens and older adults connect, one email at a time!
Young people want to connect in person with older adults, but with academic and extracurricular commitments, they may not have the time to visit. Platinum Pals allows them to reach out by committing to send one thoughtful email a week to a 55+ adult, for community service credit.
On the other side of the equation, older adults have the opportunity to share their valuable life experiences with the younger generation. Many of our Platinum Seniors have had interesting careers in a range of fields, from education and medicine, to finance and the military. Platinum Friends enjoy hearing their stories as well, and can learn a lot about a field that interests them.
